I’m not sure where to even start! Carrie and I go way back. I met her my junior year of high school right after I moved to Asheville from Texas. She was in pretty much all of my classes, and she was friendly and helped me feel more at home in my new school. Besides her friendliness, I was also struck by her intelligence, positive attitude, determination, fun-loving spirit, kindness, athleticism, leadership, beauty, sense of humor… so many things!!!!!!!!!! We’ve been on some really fun adventures together. Our camping trip to Cumberland Island where the ponies and armadillos run wild and the plankton glows in the dark is one of my favorite memories. Carrie and I both love the outdoors and dancing all night. Another one of my favorite memories was traveling over to Duke from UNC to go to a club where they had a mechanical bull. haha!
Carrie is an amazing person. It’s no wonder she went to Duke and is now an attorney in NYC. There is no doubt that Carrie is destined for great things! She’s basically got everything. Yalcin is seriously lucky man! I actually met Yalcin for the first time the day before his wedding at the rehearsal dinner. I had heard amazing things about him, and they all seem to be true! Yalcin’s family and many of his friends flew all the way from Turkey for the wedding. It was so neat getting to see a slice of Turkish culture at the rehearsal dinner when Yalcin’s sisters and female relatives presented Carrie was a traditional Turkish bridal outfit, led us in a dance, and painted our wrists with henna. Yalcin’s family was so friendly and warm despite the language barrier. I wish I knew more Turkish!
Carrie’s wedding was like a high school and college reunion for me, since Carrie and I share so many friends. There were so many things that made the day really special. Carrie’s brother, Brett, officiated the ceremony alongside a translator, who was also a close friend of Yalcin’s. The wedding ceremony was spoken in both English and Turkish, which was different than any other wedding I have photographed! It was a very sunny day, but so incredibly windy and cold! You wouldn’t guess how cold it was by looking at the pictures. Carrie and Yalcin braved the gales to venture out for some portraits at sunset, and I was amazed that Carrie did not turn into an ice cube in her beautiful lace dress! It was so much fun seeing Carrie’s family, who are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Anway, I’ve said enough. Check out the pictures! A big thank you to Maria Estes for doing an amazing job 2nd shooting!
