Baby Goats at Fearrington Village

Today I spent the whole day tromping around in cow pastures at Fearrington Village near Pittsboro, NC. It was right up my alley! Bob Strowd, the farm manager, showed me around and stood guard while I pet a little beltie (oreo cow) that was only a day old, and I got to hold a little baby Tennessee fainting goat.  Yes, they actually faint and fall over when they get scared. I saw one do it when a bigger one jumped at it when they were fighting over food. Very funny. Here’s an educational video about fainting goats. I’m working on a multimedia piece for the January web exclusives for Our State Magazine that will feature farm manager Bob Strowd and the belted cows. More later!
