Ashley & Greg Married! Outer Banks wedding photographer

This wedding was one of my very favorites and will go in the Jenny Tenney Photography wedding hall of fame.  Honestly, I have no words to describe how great these two are together and how special their wedding day was.  I knew it was going to be a good one after we got together in Raleigh for their engagement session (my first engagement session ever).  It was perhaps one of the most fun times I’ve ever had taking pictures.   They made red velvet cupcakes and smashed them in each other’s faces and even had one left over for me to snack on!  They are so goofy and real with each other and it’s really beautiful to see two people connect the way they do.  The best man at their wedding said it best, that when they look at each other, it’s like the world disappears and it’s just the two of them, together.   It’s something not everyone is lucky enough to find.

A few things that made their day special: They gave each other gifts before the ceremony and Greg gave Ashley the Holga she’d been wanting for years but couldn’t afford. She definitely shed a few happy tears.  My kind of girl, so happy to get a camera!  When it came time for the first dance, the amplifier wouldn’t work, so their friends got to work on a new plan and one of them ended up playing guitar and singing a song for them to dance to.  The next dances happened outside when the groomsmen hooked up an ipod in someone’s car and blasted it with the doors open.   From what I heard, the cops ended up busting up the party later in the night, but what fun!

Here are some photos!  Scroll to the bottom to read more about their Outer Banks wedding.

This is right after the groom's brother accidentally walked by the window and got a peek of Ashley putting on her gown!

Ashley's mother gave her a locket with some tissue paper from her baby shower before she knew if Ashley was a boy or a girl.

They played rock, paper, scissors to decide who would read their vows first!

Ashley takes a few photos with her new Holga!

Ashley and Greg chose Taylor Mali’s poem, Falling in love is like owning a dog to be read at their ceremony, and it was lovely. They might be almost as obsessed with their dog, Maisie, as I am with my monkey dog, Rio, so I thought it was pretty rad that they made this part of their wedding ceremony.  Another reason why I LOVE THIS COUPLE!  Here is the poem:

First of all, it’s a big responsibility,
especially in a city like New York.
So think long and hard before deciding on love.
On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you’re walking down the street late at night
and you have a leash on love
ain’t no one going to mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do in its own defense?

On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breathes
and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with its needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.

Love doesn’t like being left alone for long.
But come home and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things accidentally in its passion for life,
but you can never be mad at love for long.

Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad, love, bad! Very bad love.

Love makes messes.
Love leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs lots of cleaning up after.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper
and swat love on the nose,
not so much to cause pain,
just to let love know Don’t you ever do that again!

Sometimes love just wants to go for a nice long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It runs you around the block and leaves you panting.
It pulls you in several different directions at once,
or winds around and around you
until you’re all wound up and can’t move.

But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love
stop and talk to each other on the street.

Throw things away and love will bring them back,
again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, lots of it.
And in return, love loves you and never stops.

Ashley and Greg wrote their own vows, and the ceremony was emotional and really special for everyone involved.  The whole day was filled with fun, and it was such a privilege to be there to meet all of Ashley and Greg’s favorite people. I always have way too much fun with these two, and I’m happy to say we’ve become friends.  Congratulations Ashley & Greg!  I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.
