Japanese Tea Gathering Video for Our State Magazine

Earlier in April I received the opportunity to produce a video for Our State Magazine at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens tea house. I was really excited about this assignment because I had seen a Chinese tea ceremony at a wedding I photographed back in November, and I was curious to see a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It was so neat! I was lucky enough to get to taste the tea, and it was different than any kind of tea I had ever had. The green tea leaves are ground up, giving it a great flavor and an interesting smooth texture. It was unexpectedly delicious! Most green tea I’ve tasted was bitter and watery, but this was completely different. It was really neat to also see the customs and traditions that are part of the gathering. Special thanks to the awesome folks at the gardens who welcomed me into the tea gathering, especially Nancy Hamilton. Check it out:
