I met Kyle when I joined the Outing Club as a freshman at Carolina. I think that was over 7 years ago… wow! Time has definitely flown by! Anyway, Outing Club was all about outdoor adventure, and we went on rafting trips, backpacking trips, sea kayaking, rock climbing, canoeing, spelunking (that’s cave exploring), and lots more. It was an amazing group of people and it made my time at Carolina so much fun, especially the weekends! Kyle was into photography back then, before I had realized it was my calling. Fast forward a few years… Kyle emails me and asks me to photograph his wedding. I must admit, I was nervous because I know he has high standards!
I had so much fun seeing Kyle again and meeting Golda, his wife. Their wedding ceremony was one of the sweetest I have ever seen. It was heart-warming to watch Kyle and Golda’s expressions as they saw each other. That is always one of my favorite parts of a wedding, and this one was extra special. I don’t usually cry because I am so focused on what I am doing, but seeing Kyle get a little choked up watching Golda join him really got me. Golda is a writer and has published several books, so of course they decided to write their own vows. It was very moving and personal, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the crowd.
As I went through the hundreds (more like thousands!) of pictures I took that day, it’s pretty incredible how many pictures there are of both of them grinning from ear to ear. Sometimes the wedding day can be overwhelming for the bride and groom, but Golda and Kyle really made sure to soak it all in and enjoy being married! and having all of their family and friends in one place. I honestly think that is one of the best things about your wedding day- you have everyone you love in the same place. When else in your life does that happen!? Probably never, when you really think about. That’s something to be cherished!
I absolutely love photographing weddings for friends and people I know personally. It’s always my goal to get to know a couple so that I can really capture their personalities and their style. Knowing my clients personally allows me to capture more genuine moments and get in a little deeper than I would otherwise. I could go on and on about Kyle and Golda and their wedding, but I’ll let you check out the photos instead. : )
